ANTLER
Smart
Squirrels
Late
March early April
grey squirrels bite into
young sugar maples
And
sap flows out
down their smooth trunks
staining them.
In
the morning you can see
the squirrels’ pink tongues
lapping it.
And
on cold nights it freezes
in long amber icicles
on the bark,
A
kind of crystallized
sap candy
they love.
