JIM COHN

“The Second Coming Of Ernesto Cardenal”

Easter morning, tulips in bloom––

We celebrate like Jesus

Who performed the greatest act

Of civil disobedience

And would not stay dead.

El Gran Misterio––

Defy the State, that Rocks & Stones shall sing.

Once, there was no brain.

We are all modified sharks,

Insects, lilies.

The whole of life is a single life.

Cosmos––you are not finished yet.

From space, divisions between nations

Are nonexistent.

Is radiation just another name

For angels?

We grow old and die like

Automobiles.

The lovers meet in secret lagoons

Where voices of bald eagles

From other galaxies hover

On the edges.

The universe is so big.

It couldn’t be any other way.
